I have lived with moderate to severe pain for several years and will have it the rest of my life. Speaking from hands on experience, these compounds, including aspirin you mention, really have no affect on serious pain.
People who speak of these methods of controlling pain have never experienced what severe pain can do.
To those who speak of using Marijuana for pain.. My experience has been that it magnifies the sensory nerves and makes the pain only worse but it does make one intoxicated which can help separate from the helplessness and depression that chronic pain induces.
I think people who use Marijuana are using it with other pain analgesics because it certainly does not relieve pain by itself.

You forgot Cannabis and the Oriental Poppy. Regardless of what you think about opium or weed you have to admit they are all natural and work.
